Bling Bling Mario!

People often ask where designers get their inspiration. A typical answer? Everywhere! This is actually pretty true. I see people walking down the street and immediately have an idea. Or I walk by a shop window, doesn’t even need to be fashion related, and BAM another idea springs to mind.

Often a lot of my inspiration comes from things I personally covet. To quote a great movie, Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal says to Clarice, “He covets. That is his nature. And how do we begin to covet, Clarice? Do we seek out things to covet? …We begin by coveting what we see every day.” So true. So what am I currently coveting? My new bling bling Mario Bros case.

Isn’t he amazingly precious?! He was being featured in a store window right below my office. I walked by the shop everyday and kept meaning to go in when the store unexpectedly closed! I was mortified. Ok, that might be a slight exaggeration but I was definitely pissed at myself for not going in sooner to inquire about my little super hero. Then my ultra cool, actually too cool for school niece visited from London. She was toting around her blinged out Hello Kitty cell phone case. The jealously started to brew. I wanted Mario ever more now! After a very brief internet crusade, I found him.

He makes me swoon. I sneak a peak at him every now and again and do a little giggle. He brings back memories of sitting in front of my tv on Sundays with one of my bffs Karoline and playing for HOURS until we saved the princess. Now the problem is I am obsessed with bling bling iphone cases. I want a whole treasure chest of them. My celly needs a wardrobe after all right?! I am currently coveting the Winnie the Poo and the Dumbo cases. Since I am so coveting these cases partly for nostalgia from my youth and partly because they are just so sparkly and pretty, I have to think if bling bling bisous should be next to hit the production line. Everyone needs a little bling bling right?

Pin! Pin! Pin!

Being in the fashion space and surrounded by tech companies, all I have been hearing for months is Pintrist! At first I did not really get it. A site where you “pin” things you love? Seriously? This is fun? Engaging? Addictive? Why all the buzz?

After spending some time on the site, ok, now I get it. I have always been a visual learner and some of the boards you Pinners have created are AH-mazing! The site is engaging! It is addictive! I am making a commitment to be an active Pinner! Keep your eyes open for my boards. Not sure I have the pinning skills of some of you superbo pinners but I am going to give it a go!!!

May the odds be ever in your favor!

The Hunger Games opened last weekend and few are more tickled pink about this event than me. A guilty pleasure this year was discovering and devouring this trilogy of books. They had excitement, a strong female protagonist, and let me be honest, a love triangle juicier than Bella, her vampire, and werewolf suitors.

I did see the movie twice opening weekend. This was absolutely necessary because I would have missed too many details in the first viewing. Plus I am known for seeing movies multiple times. One of my interns so cleverly asked me what HG inspired treats would I be bringing into the theatre. In horror I responded that I had not even given this thought. Perhaps some pita (get it Peeta) and hummus? I think this movie opening was worthy of mini bottle of champagne to sip on. After all, we were taken to The Capital where opulence is key.

What was I most excited to see on the big screen?! The fashion of course! When I heard Lenny Kravitz was playing Cinna I swooned. I have been scouring internet sites for weeks looking at any and all costumes I could lay my eyes on. I knew I would definitely get some bisous inspiration during my many viewings and I did. A friend actually pointed out that my Fly Away With Me bisous do resemble a mockingjay. Of course…. I was ahead of the trend.

Keep a look out for some HG inspired bisous and until then may the odds be ever in your favor!

Summer In Italy

The summer is months away but that has not stopped me from my jet setter planning. In early July, friends are getting married in Tuscany and this celebration seems like a perfect excuse to visit one of my favorite countries. In the past, I was consumed by the Italian culture, the people, the food and of course…. the couture.

Italy is one of those countries where it is hard not to be swept away into the magical world of cobblestone streets, delicious gelato, sun kissed air, and a romantic language. I could go on and on about everything I love but I think you may start to get a little jealous of my summer plans.

I will say this, with my designer cap on, I am excited to explore the fashions and boutiques for rare finds. I have never been disappointed about my retail Italian findings and I have it on good authority that I will find some incredible inspiration for bisous.

Now I just need to get through the next few months until my flight whisks me away!

MID DAY PICK ME UPS

We all have those whirlwind days where we are begging for more hours. Emails, scheduling, sample reviews, and production oh my! Then there are those days when we wonder why time moves so very slowly. Those are the days where I rack my brain and make mental list after mental list of all the things I could be doing but unfortunately cannot will myself to do. Can you relate?!

On those days I am itching for good distractions.

Are my friends available to gchat?
What is the inspiration for my next collection?
Whatever do I order for lunch? (I actually ask myself this every morning at 9am)
Have I paid all my bills this month?
Looking at Net-A-Porter and other online retailers definitely counts as “research”.

After the mental lists are made, I find myself on a quest for a mid day pick me up. Often I want something delicious to munch on like a macaroon- there is an amazing macaron shop around the corner from my office and the caramel with fleur de sel are addictive and transport me to Paris. Some days I saunter over to the massive bin of Twizzlers and snatch a few. Other days I think I ingest toooo much sugar and I visit the barristas downstairs at our lobby Sbux for a skinny vanilly delight.

Winter Blues

Have the winter blues fallen upon you? While the snow has not been coming down in a big way, the days do seem long and darkness does fall upon us rather early. Even all the rain seems to have made our clear skies grey. I find myself longing for spring. Thankfully it is around the corner.

Until then, we do have some events to celebrate. While Valentine’s Day is a constructed holiday, I cannot help but find myself excited at the idea of a secret admirer. The pinks and reds everywhere also bring a smile to my face. If you haven’t looked already, please check out my Valentine’s Day Collection. For those of you who don’t want to indulge in real chocolates, there is a bonbon bisous. A personal favorite is the Best Friends Forever bisous. You get two broken hearts so you can give your bestie a pair to wear. After all VDay is for friends and not only lovers! Plus they always make me smile.

I have to admit that President’s Day weekend has me excited too. Let’s face it, a three day weekend in February is necessary!!! While I probably will stay in the city, the idea of a weekend with an extra day is always something I look forward to.

So until Spring arrives (March 21st and my birthday) don’t get bogged down in the winter blues!!!! Find something that brings a smile to your face or at least something to look forward to.

The Holidays!!!

The first signs of the holidays appeared a few weeks ago when I stopped by Starbucks for my morning brew. The menu had been miraculously transformed with spectacular additions of egg nog, peppermint, and gingerbread oh my! The city storefront windows were unveiled, some in grandeur fashion than others- let’s be honest, hard for anyone to top Gaga at Barneys. Not sure I had fully gotten into the holiday spirit yet but then I started to constantly hear people say, “happy holidays!” and all of a sudden boom I was into the holidays. I find myself humming holiday tunes, planning festivities, and even wanting to wear ugly holiday sweaters for fun! However you celebrate this holiday season, make sure you do it with those you love! After all, the holidays are about bringing people together!

So Many Firsts!!!!

This past week has been all about “firsts” for me! Boy has it been exciting!!!!!

The “Firsts”
1. First photo shoot ever. Thank you Toujours Mag for putting me in your soon to be 2nd issue. Cannot wait to see it!!!
2. First time seeing my shoes and bisous in a musical. Bring It On: The Musical is amazing. Everyone check it out and look at Campbell’s shoes.
3. First feature in a magazine. Bisous bisous LoLo Magazine. Such a great piece!
4. First time to launch my site. So nerve racking but wonderful.
5. First customer to make an official purchase at my site. Thank you my sweet Arielle.

Who knows what will happen next week but I cannot wait to see!

I cannot believe that we have actually launched Jordana Silver!!!! This is an idea a couple of years in the making. I have had huge support from friends and family. Thanks Mom and Dad! I have also been fortunate to work with amazing people and teams from Night Owl Interactive to Chris McPartland. To Lynne and Lauren, thanks for letting me bounce ideas off of you all year! A girl always needs mentors!!!!

For those of you who are hearing of my collection of shoes and bisous for the first time, I hope you love them as much as I do! Whether you are classic and embody our rose, are edgy and style the agate stone or love the touch of whimsy and sport the robots, have fun mixing, matching, and expressing!!!!
